On the run from the police for a murder he did not commit, Dr Richard Kimble (Harrison Ford) ends up in Chicago in the film THE FUGITIVE. In this city he tries to prove his innocence by finding the real perpetrator.

The film was shot between February 3 and May 15, 1993, amongst others on March 17 in Chicago during Saint Patrick’s Day. The on location shoot also included the state of North Carolina. The scenes at the beginning of the film that were filmed here include the train crash and the escape at the dam. After about 45 minutes the story moves to Chicago where Richard Kimble used to work in a hospital. The only clue he has is that the killer only has one arm.

In search of a telephone booth, Richard Kimble crosses the street at the Wells Street Bridge and West Wacker Drive. The area has hardly changed here, only the telephone booth is no longer there, perhaps it was a prop. In the film snow lies in the streets, during our visit it was a sunny day.

Close to this location is the Wrigley Building, seen briefly when Dr. Charles Nichols (Jeroen Krabbé) leaves the nearby North Bank Club on North Rush Street. The building was construced between 1920 and 1924 to house the headquarters of the chewing gum company Wrigley.

During the parade, Richard Kimble walks on Daley Plaza. Note the sculpture by Picasso in the background, it can also be seen in The Lake House. He crosses North Clark Street and enters City Hall. The main entrance is on North LaSalle Drive, both entrances are connected with a corridor. Marshal Samuel Gerard (Tommy Lee Jones), in charge of finding Richard Kimble, sees him after which he rushes out of the building, goes back to Daley Plaza and disappears in the parade.

During the parade, then mayor Richard M. Daley (brown coat) can be glimpsed. Daley Plaza is named after his father, Richard J. Daley, mayor of Chicago between 1955 and 1976.
